The Federation was established over 70 years ago with a purpose of assisting municipal land use agencies in the performance of their role as the regulator of land use within each of  their municipalities.  The current Legislative session is considering a number of bills which will weaken their role and remove the authority of these agencies to effectively control certain land uses.

The Federation has attached documents detailing these bills as well as a sample resolution that can be adopted to express each member’s views.  The Federation encourages each member to contact its State Representative and Senator as these bills will effect the future of zoning in Connecticut.

ABOUT US

cfpza border copy.jpg

The Connecticut Federation of Planning and Zoning Agencies was created out of a need and an idea. In 1948, a group of forward-looking planning and zoning personnel recognized a need to collect and centralize the varied planning and zoning experiences of Connecticut municipalities. They came up with the idea of forming an organization that would serve as the focal point for collecting and disseminating information to member agencies.
The idea became a reality with the formation of the Connecticut Federation of Planning and Zoning Agencies, whose purpose is to promote municipal and regional planning in Connecticut; to encourage the adoption of adequate and effective zoning; to assist planning and zoning agencies in carrying out their duties and responsibilities; and to provide a clearinghouse for information on planning and zoning matters.
Since its inception, the Federation has grown steadily in size and influence with a present-day membership of almost 200 planning commissions, zoning commissions, zoning boards of appeal, and regional planning agencies.
The Connecticut Federation of Planning and Zoning Agencies is a non-profit, non-partisan organization, which derives its sole support from the annual fee paid by its members.
